Click-To-Record Plugins
If you use TVG on a properly setup Media Center computer TVG can instruct Media Center to schedule a show to be recorded. This feature is provided by the Click-To-Record plugins available when installing TVG. Below is an explanation of the settings available for configuring these plugins.
Allow Alternate Airings | Indicates how Windows Media Center should respond when it cannot find the specified airing of a program. A value of "true" indicates that Windows Media Center can schedule the recording at an alternate time. A series will target a specific time for the first item that is found chronologically in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). A value of "false" indicates that if Windows Media Center cannot find the program within the specified time period, it should fail the request and inform the user. The default value is "false". |
Allow Alternate Services | Indicates how Windows Media Center should respond when it cannot find the specified airing of a program on a particular channel. A value of "true" indicates that Windows Media Center can look for the same program on a different channel. A value of "false" indicates that if Windows Media Center cannot find the program on the specified broadcast service, it should fail the request. The default value is "false". |
How Long To Keep Recordings |
Specifies how long to keep the recorded files.
|
Is A Recurring Recording | Indicates whether the request is for a series of recordings, or just a one-time recording. A value of "true" indicates a recurring (series) recording, and "false" indicates a one-time recording. The default value is "false". |
Recording Quality | Specifies the record quality for this particular show. |
MCE Record Over LAN Plugins
MCE Record Over LAN is a set of components which allow TVG to schedule shows to be recorded on any MCE computer on your local network. There are two components, each with their own installer, one being the plugin for TVG which allows TVG to send the record requests over the network and the other being the server that runs on the MCE computer (MCE 2005 or Vista) and listens for those requests. Setup is pretty straight forward:
- Download MCERecordOverLANPluginSetup.exe and run it on the computer where you use TVG. This will install the necessary plugin.
- Download MCERecordOverLANServiceSetup.exe and run it on your MCE computer. This will install the necessary service that listens for record requests. Make sure to choose the one appropriate for your operating system (both 2k5 and Vista versions are included in the same installer).
- If the firewall is enabled on your MCE computer, make sure to authorize the MCERecordOverLAN service executable (installed in \Program Files\MCERecordOverLAN by default) or turn your firewall off.
- Run TVG and configure the plugin, entering the IP address or computer name of the MCE computer to send record requests to.
